Off-season meal deals

I discovered two great off-season meal (and wine) deals over at the Parkside Cafe. Tuesday night is pasta night, with meat sauce and vegie sauce options, unlimited pasta and salad, and to top it off, three bucks for a very decent glass of wine. Buono da mangiare! Wednesday night is soup and salad night, with two choices of soup and Caesar salad or mixed greens as salad choices. House wine is again only $3 a glass. Try finding that up or down the Coast - you won't!

Dredging the stream

After the storm created stream overflows throughout Stinson Beach, dredging the silt and sediment was required.

Winter Tides and a view from Mount Tamalpais

Two weeks after a major storm hit Northern California the beach here at Stinson is dramatically altered. Incredible amounts of sand have moved out to sea, creating the kind of sand bars that in turn help create great waves for surfers. The beach is essentially gone at high tide, around 11am.

On the way home we took a side trip off of Panoramic Highway and up Mount Tamalpais. It was 38 degrees, about 20 degrees colder than at sea level.

Major Storm Creates Road Troubles

According to the Marin Independent Journal, the Panoramic Highway between Mill Valley and Stinson Beach was closed after the New Year's weekend storm, due to mud slides and pavement problems.

"We're going to be cleaning up for months," said Pete Maendle, Marin County's senior road maintenance supervisor in West Marin.
